Raf Reviews - Oaxaca Images are of prototype components. Rules and components subject to change (final dice will have custom engraving). I was provided a prototype copy for review. No compensation for this review was provided. Even if you’ve never been to Latin America you’ve likely seen the common market handicrafts made in the region. They’re common souvenirs - from knickknacks to sculptures to tapestries – and are a real symbol of the region. My house is full of them. They’re from my home country of Guatemala, 06/08/2017

Raf Reviews - Fantasy Fantasy Football I was provided with a high-quality prototype copy. The final copy may change from what I have. Ah fantasy football. Every year my social media feed fills up with sports fans excited for the season and geek hobby enthusiasts sardonically pointing out that it’s D&D; for jocks. There’s some truth to that idea; fantasy football mirrors many of our favorite board games and can be described with similar mechanics. Designers Daryl Andrew and J.R. Honeycutt realized this and have brought fantasy sports 04/27/2017

Raf Reviews - Tesla vs. Edison Duel Note: I was provided a prototype copy of Tesla vs Edison: Duel for this review. The game is currently on Kickstarter and components and rules may be subject to change. Three or four years ago Matthew Inman published a comic about Nikola Tesla and launched this little known inventor into the pop culture consciousness. Between his public (and successful) attempts to save a Tesla museum and the fancy electric car slowly hitting the market, Tesla’s name is much more familiar to households. In 2015, 04/18/2017

Raf Reviews - The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen We don’t spend an awful lot of time talking about RPGs on Ding & Dent but they’re something we both enjoy. Unfortunately, many of them can require significant dedication of time. Between the rules to learn, characters to create, and worlds to inhabit, it’s rare to find one you can casually play in under an hour. That’s what makes The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen so appealing. The rules are extremely simple and you can play anywhere. I have literally played at a bar, replacing 04/08/2017

Raf Reviews - COIN Part 2 A two part series on my favorite game system. Part 1 was about why I like these games so much. Part 2 goes into detail on each of the first 5 titles. Trying to suggest a COIN game is a lot like trying to suggest a beer. What do you like? What don’t you like? 5 different people will put these games in 5 different orders and I’d nod at all of them and say “yeah that feels right”. For this article I’ve decided to list them in the order I’m likely to pull them off the shelf. I’m not ranking them 02/26/2017

Raf Reviews - COIN Part 1 A two part series on my favorite game system. Part 1 is about why I like these games so much. Part 2 will be on which games to try to jump in and try to see what all the fuss is about. Board games are about people. With rare exception, I don’t enjoy playing games alone. The cardboard, the plastic, the wood...it’s all just stuff without friends sitting around the table with you. My favorite games are the ones that rely on your opponents to provide the challenge and the interaction. Even then, 02/02/2017
