Raf & Calvin Review Cry Havoc It’s one of the biggest releases of the year, and Cry Havoc has made its mark; nearly universal critical acclaim. Raf and Calvin look under the hood and see and how it stacks up against the rest of the area control war games on your shelf. A previously undiscovered planet holds bountiful resources ripe for the taking - will your faction rise victorious? A card-driven game of unique combat, area control, and even a little deck customization - Cry Havoc is a unique take on an old genre. The 01/06/2017

Raf Reviews - Arkham Horror: The Card Game - Dunwich Legacy Expansion A note about spoilers: this review may contain light mechanical spoilers critical to my evaluation of the game. I also will freely discuss anything that you could pick up by reading the rules or the scenario set-up instructions. I promise that there will be no story spoilers for the Dunwich Legacy. To say that I was excited for the Dunwich Legacy would the understatement of the year. I could not get enough of The Arkham Horror LCG core set and really wanted to see where it would go. I was also 01/04/2017

Raf Reviews - Arkham Horror: The Card Game What a year for Lovecraft stuff. First Mythos Tales, now Arkham Horror: The Card Game. I’m going to have to stop saying that the Mythos doesn’t do anything for me because all of a sudden it does. I get now why Great Cthulhu holds a place in so many people’s hearts. I get why I should fear The Yellow Sign or signs of the Black Goat Cult. I get it because the AH:LCG is the best card game I’ve played since Netrunner. Arkham Horror is a story game at its heart. As you play you’ll advance through 12/19/2016

Raf Reviews - Empires: Galactic Rebellion The empire closes its grip around the planets. Sentinels appear across the galaxy, preparing for the inevitable open rebellion. In back alleys, factions bicker and scheme to both end the Empire and take control for themselves. At least I think so. There’s a paragraph in the rulebook that explains the theme but that’s about the last place you’ll truly interact with it. Fortunately, this game’s highlights don’t depend on the theme. They’re good independently. Unfortunately, the lows are tied to 11/15/2016

Raf Reviews - The Godfather: A New Don One of my favorite things about mobster movies is the dichotomy between the violence in the streets and the smoke filled rooms where powerful families slice up New York like a salami. Deals are struck and favors exchanged according to unwritten rules and back alley politicking. Yes, these are enforced with the business end of a tommy gun but that’s a messy business best avoided where possible. Godfather: A New Don approaches the genre through that smoke filled room, and it’s a top-notch 11/14/2016

Raf Reviews - Mythos Tales There’s something strange going on in Arkham, Massachusetts. I guess that isn’t particularly notable. I should say that there is something stranger going on in Akrham, Massachusetts. This fictional town has seen more than its fair share of oddities, horror, and gloom ever since H.P. Lovecraft wrote about it in The Picture in the House. Now 8th Summit invites you to visit Arkham yourself and help Professor Armitage figure out just what is happening in this not-so-sleepy town. Raf Reviews - Arcane Academy Wizard School! Finally. I don’t know many people who wouldn’t want to go to wizard school, especially one as bright and colorful as the Academy of Magic and Sciences. Arcane Academy is an almost gateway weight game but it’s one I can’t stop playing. Magic flies through the air and mystic items buzz to life in this combo building game of tiles and card play. Anyone who knows me knows how much I like combo building games. One of the reasons I like it so much is that building and pulling off 10/16/2016

Raf Reviews - Morocco Boardgames are an amalgamation of things. Art, components, mechanics, and rules come together to provide some sort of experience at the table. The best weave these elements together into an experience that transcends the physical acts of moving plastic and wood across cardboard. My favorite games are the ones where people describe - not the mechanics or rules - but the story, the adventure, or the tension the game provides. Unfortunately, Morocco falls short of my expectations. The promised 09/25/2016
